There are a few things you can do to really optimize AdSense:
- Banners generally don't perform as well as ads inside the content. Instead of using a banner, try a rectangle (300x250) inside of the content.
- Make sure the background of the ad is the same color as the background color of the content.
- Keep your ad link color the same as your page link color (if your links are blue, make sure your ad links are blue).
- Remember that Google AdSense, while advertising, can really be seen as "related links" thanks to the contextually relevant links that Google provides.
