Software Taxes

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - If you didn't already know, I currently live in Seattle. There's a bill that's currently in the Washington State Legislature that, if passed, will levy a tax on all software customizations done by businesses (at least, for now, those businesses residing in the state of Washington). You may not think this impacts you directly, but if other states (or governments in other countries) see it as a viable option, they may consider doing the same thing where you live. I spoke with Ken Myer, President and CEO of the WTIA, to find out more about this bill - and why it's probably not the smartest thing for small businesses here. http://chris.pirillo.com

What is Siri?

http://go.tagjag.com/siri - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - A few weeks prior to the SXSW conference, I was told I "needed" to download the Siri app for my iPhone. I did so, but hadn't really had a chance to use it until I was talking to the people who created the app. If you're a busy person who has things to do, Siri may well be the answer you've been looking for. You ask - and Siri will DO. Forget clicking a hundred links in your browser to accomplish something. Speak or type your request to Siri, and the app acts on your behalf, utilizing the best services on the web. http://chris.pirillo.com

AMD Fusion Media Explorer

http://go.tagjag.com/eyefinity - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - The AMD Fusion Media Explorer is a very different way to browse through your photos. FME allows you to explore your digital media content from either your local machine or online resources such as Flickr, YouTube, and Microsoft Live. The application also has Facebook integration, which lets you post and interacting with photos of your own... or with those posted by friends. Fusion Media Explorer doesn't stop with pictures. Use the integrated search engine or 3D Ribbon to find videos, movies and television shows that interest you. Thanks go to everyone at AMD for helping me to attend the SXSW conference, and for taking the time to showcase so many of their new technologies for our community. http://chris.pirillo.com

Who Is Violet Blue?

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://twitter.com/violetblue - I happened to run into Violet Blue while I was attending the SXSW conference recently, and she agreed to sit and talk with me. Violet is an awarded author, a notorious columnist, a former Oprah guest, a magazine columnest, and an all-around web celeb! She tells it like it is, holding nothing back. She does so in a way that will make you stop and think about things while cracking you up. I never felt uncomfortable talking to her. She is able to quickly put a person at ease and reels them in with her wit, charm and grace. http://chris.pirillo.com - http://go.tagjag.com/eyefinity

Flash Video is Better with AMD and ATI

http://go.tagjag.com/eyefinity - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - There are a lot of people making and watching videos online these days. When I visited the AMD campus in Texas during the SXSW conference recently, Casey showed me how AMD is helping people all over the world enhance their Flash experience. Adobe Flash 10.1 is a collaborative effort between Adobe and the team at AMD, by combining the Flash player with AMDs GPU hardware acceleration features. http://chris.pirillo.com

Tech Support Ethics Question

http://www.gotoassist.com/chris - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - It's super simple to help someone with their computer issues remotely. It doesn't matter what operating system you and your client are using, and you don't even have to be using the same one. What happens, though, if you're in the middle of a tech support session using GoToAssist Express, and you can't solve the problem they're having? Do you charge for the time you have already put in? http://chris.pirillo.com

How to Transfer a Tech Support Desktop Sharing Session

http://www.gotoassist.com/chris - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - If you are a computer tech who works via remote desktop connection, chances are you're using GoToAssist Express. No matter how smart you are or how long you've been working with computers, you don't know it all. Others, however, may know things that you don't. This is where GTA Express can really come in handy. The program happens to have a Transfer feature, allowing you to quickly (and easily) hand the connection - and the problem - over to a colleague. http://chris.pirillo.com

What is the Name of That Song?

http://go.tagjag.com/screencast - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - How often have you heard a new song and liked it, only to not find out the name of it at the end? It can drive you crazy trying to Google pieces of the lyrics, attempting to figure out who sings it, and what it's called. You can't buy the song for yourself if you don't know the name of it. That's where Midomi comes in. With Midomi, you can use your own voice to hum or sing lyrics to any song, and the service will find it for you. Once you've found it, you can watch the video for that particular piece of music, or even record a version of your own to share with the world. Thanks to James for sending in this screencast, so that everyone can have fun on this awesome site. http://chris.pirillo.com - http://youtube.com/TheTechGuy411

Sign Language Translation

http://go.tagjag.com/asl - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - There may be times when you need to talk to someone who uses sign language to communicate. If you don't know sign language yourself, it may be difficult to converse with the other person. However, if you have an iPhone, there's an app that can help you. The ASL Dictionary is full of more than 4800 signs. Type a word or letter into the application, and it will show you with video clips how to sign what you entered. This is a great way to open lines of communication that - until now - had been hard to navigate. http://chris.pirillo.com

AMD Eyefinity Multi-Monitor for Gaming

http://go.tagjag.com/eyefinity - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - Playing games is fun, but sometimes one screen is just not enough. Wouldn't you have a much better experience if you were using three screens? With AMDs Eyefinity, you can easily run three screens off of one graphics card. I spent a little bit of time with Casey while I was at AMDs campus in Texas recently. Casey is the Director of Product Marketing for the graphics side of their company. He wanted to share with us the advances made with Eyefinity, and how it can improve your gaming experience, along with your productivity. I have to thank the folks at AMD for bringing me to Texas for the SXSW conference, as well as for all the time they spent with me to answers questions from our community. http://chris.pirillo.com

What is the Best Burger?

http://go.tagjag.com/screencast - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - The last few screencasts we've uploaded from Joseph have been hits with our community. We love his fresh and unique style, and his personality. This time, he chose to go a different route, and talk about food instead of technology. Food is good... especially if it's burgers and fries. Most Geeks I know love to head to the local fast food joint to bring home a sack of goodness. I have to agree with Joseph, though. AMD's Vision

http://go.tagjag.com/eyefinity - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - During my trip to SXSW last week, I spent some time at the AMD campus. I was able to talk briefly with Raymond from the AMD Product Marketing Group. I had heard that AMD has a vision for Vision, and wanted to get more information for all of you. It's a difficult process to buy a new computer these days, with all of the choices there are. AMD Vision was created to simplify that process for you. I appreciate the folks at AMD sponsoring my trip to SXSW, and giving me the opportunity to get important product information to our community. http://chris.pirillo.com

http://www.amd.com/ - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - If you've been watching my live stream this past week, you've likely seen the red laptop sitting on my desk. It is an Acer Ferrari One - part of the 200 series. It was sent to me to review by my friends at AMD, and I have to thank them for it. What is Bump?

http://bu.mp/ - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - One of the most popular apps on both the iPhone and the Android has to be Bump. I see people everywhere bumping their phones together in order to get to know each other better. You can use Bump to exchange contact information, share photos, or even become friends on Facebook. As you can see from the demonstration we did in the video, it's simple to use. Stop wasting your time manually typing someone's name, phone number and email address into your address book. Just Bump them! http://chris.pirillo.com

Local Tech Support Ideas

http://gotoassist.com/chris - I grew up in a small town, and I was able to really get to know my neighbors. You may live in a bigger city. Even if you do, the chances of you reaching out to those around you at some point are pretty high. We still need to connect with people, even if it's via the Internet while helping them with their computer problems. It doesn't matter if you're using Mac OS X or Windows, there's really only one solution, and that is GoToAssist Express. http://twitter.com/chrispirillo

How to Get Referrals From Clients

http://gotoassist.com/chris - They say that word of mouth is the best form of advertising. While I don't know who "they" is, exactly, I do enjoy spreading the word regarding products and services that I find to be helpful or that I have enjoyed using. There are a lot of tech support people out there these days. One of the reasons you want to have the right tools at your disposal is the actual marketing opportunities those tools can provide you. Ask for a referral while your customer is happy. Using GoToAssist can help you achieve your dreams of success simply by giving you the tools you need to do your job right the first time. http://twitter.com/chrispirillo

AMD Questions and Answers

http://www.amd.com - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo Thanks to AMD for allowing our community to ask them questions (and yes, we have an open line of communication with them - so don't think it begins and ends with this video). If it weren't for AMD, I wouldn't have been able to attend SXSW (and, of course, visit AMD's campus in Austin, TX). Social Media Questions and Answers

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - 'Social Media' is the phrase of the day. Many of us were doing things socially online long before the term was even coined. No one can seem to decide what, exactly, social media really IS, anyway. Craig sent a series of questions to me from Scotland, asking five questions about social media. I thought it would be fun to record my answers as a video. Also, by having them out there this way, hopefully more people will be able to learn something - instead of only Craig! Windows Phone 7

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com/ - First, if you have any questions for the Windows Phone 7 Series team, I'd be more than happy to ask on your behalf (as I do live around the corner from Redmond's campus and will be meeting with the team again at some point in the future). Post a comment and/or video response. I was invited to a behind the scenes look at elements of the Windows Phone 7 Series developer platform. At Mobile World Congress (covered earlier in this channel), Microsoft provided a first look at Windows Phone 7 Series - and Im pleased to offer you the opportunity to see a live demonstration up close. Yes, I got to play with the phone, too. It works as advertised - even as a prototype. Unfortunately, we could not adjust the brightness settings in this particular device. The "Metro" interface is a bucket of win in my book. Charlie Kindel partner group program manager, Windows Phone App Platform & Developer Experience was hosting an intimate reception this evening in San Francisco. I wasn't able to make it, but Microsoft arranged a somewhat more private meeting with Greg Sullivan from the Windows Phone team a little closer to home. I met Greg a few years ago through the Longhorn Labs project (back when Microsoft Windows team leads worked actively with their most vocal community supporters). I'm not sure if I can reveal any more device details at this point, but suffice it to say... I want one. http://geeks.pirillo.com/
