The Future of Biking

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - During a recent Bluetooth SIG event in Seattle, I learned how easy it is to keep track of your biking habits using Bluetooth technology. The demo bicycle wheel was spinning at about five miles per hour, even though it wasn't really going anywhere. It was being measured by the little piece of plastic attached to the spokes, which is about the size of a thumb drive. The Velo Computer by Sound of Motion measures wheel rotation with a 1-degree precision. http://live.pirillo.com

The Future of Bluetooth

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - During a recent Bluetooth SIG event, I was able to witness a proof-of-concept technology which shows the power of bluetooth. As you can see, a photo was taken of Blair and then sent instantly to her phone via a bluetooth connection. A bluetooth peer-to-peer link can connect you with others in ways you have yet to even dream of. http://chris.pirillo.com

App Store vs Android Marketplace

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - I received an email the other day from a community member who has some questions about the differences between the Apple App Store and Google's Android Marketplace. He feels that the apps are one of the biggest reasons people choose one phone (or operating system) over another, and wants information to make an informed decision himself. http://live.pirillo.com

Are the iPhone 4 Bumpers Worth Buying?

http://go.tagjag.com/bumpers - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - Always wear protection! This is advice I've been giving people for years in conjunction with their communications devices. For instance, I have my new iPhone 4 here with me... along with the official Apple Bumper I purchased to help protect it. The Bumpers come in a variety of colors to help you personalize your phone to suit your lifestyle. My Bumper has a few scuff marks already after just a few days, but I feel that means it's doing its job. http://chris.pirillo.com

Eyefinity is Perfect for PC Gaming

http://go.tagjag.com/eyefinity - Yes, I like to drive a big truck with the pedal to the metal. Eighteen wheels will be rolling until the break of dawn. I decided to try my hands at playing the Rig'n'Roll game on my sweet ATI Eyefinity setup. I have to thank the team at AMD for hooking me up so that I can experience the beauty that is Eyefinity in my own home. Playing the game with perfect resolution across three screens this way is unlike anything I've ever done before. It's nearly impossible to translate to you via a video or text. You just have to try it for yourself. http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo

Are You Too Polite?

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - An article on The Consumerist discussed customer service reps that are infuriatingly polite that they make you scream! 3G vs 4G Speed Test

http://www.facebook.com/chrispirillo - Please post a video response demonstrating how your speeds measure up against mine. Your mileage may vary! From where I sit in this home office, however, I'm not so sure I see a clear difference between Sprint's 4G network and AT&T's 3G network - at least, from these two devices today. That may change with network upgrades, of course. http://twitter.com/ChrisPirillo If anything, I most of my off-camera tests showed Sprint's 4G network had better download speeds, worse upload speeds, and higher latency. Much like there's a megapixel myth with digital cameras, there may be a "G" myth soon enough... http://chris.pirillo.com/

Families Love FaceTime on the iPhone

http://www.facebook.com/chrispirillo - Should my dad go with a "Sprint phone" or an iPhone? Here's your chance to influence his decision! The family that FaceTimes together... stays together. At least, virtually. I decided to live stream and capture the first FaceTime call with my parents. I wanted them to see just how easy it was to do. Then, my dad launched into a series of questions - asking which is better, a Sprint phone or an iPhone? I gave him my answer - but perhaps you have a different response. If you can come up with a good list of reasons of which would be better for him, you can email them to me and I'll forward them on to him. You know my email address is chris@pirillo.com.

http://go.tagjag.com/aeropress - What drink do you enjoy first thing in the morning? Is it coffee? Is it something else caffeinated? Join the club. iPhone 4 Antenna Fix

http://chris.pirillo.com/ - Okay, so the fix isn't quite the most elegant in the world - but if you're really concerned about the antenna's signal dropping from bridging the gap with your skin, simply use a bit of cellophane tape to cover the "drop zone." http://www.fastcompany.com/1663768/iphone-4-antenna-fix

iPhone 4 YouTube Video Upload Issue

http://go.tagjag.com/imovieapp - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - I uploaded a video to YouTube a few hours ago that I had recorded with my iPhone 4 while in my car. At the last minute, I decided to edit the video using the iMovie app which is available for only five bucks in iTunes (link at beginning of this description). It was exceedingly simple to use. It has to now be my video editor of choice. It's a fantastic app and I highly recommend it. The caveat, though, is the fact that the finished product would not upload to YouTube properly. - http://chris.pirillo.com

Problems Connecting the iPhone 4

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - After successfully unboxing my new iPhone 4, it was time to connect and sync it for the first time. I had to choose a name for my device. My iPad was named Pythagoras. Therefore, I wanted to stick with a "P" name. One person in the chat room suggested the name "Placenta." I'm not calling my iPhone that, but why not call the USB cables the placenta? Great idea! Grab your iPhone placenta, connect it up and lets get this show on the road. http://live.pirillo.com

Unboxing the iPhone 4

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - When I first opened the box for my iPhone 4, you can see how well they packed it. There's no extra material. It was strapped in tight with a thin strip of cellophane. The box was white, but the phone is black. I ordered the 32GB model. Yes, I used a pair of scissors to cut the tape on the iPhone box. No, I haven't learned my lesson about using sharp objects. http://live.pirillo.com

Apple iPhone 4 Antenna Problems

http://chris.pirillo.com/ - http://twitter.com/ChrisPirillo - Before I left the house tonight (to attend a tech industry event at a local winery), I heard news that Apple was starting to respond to reports of antenna problems in the iPhone 4. Out of the array of links discovered, this one is probably the most important one for you to read: http://www.antennasys.com/antennasys-... Getting the antenna "right" isn't an easy task for any company, but I'm not so sure Apple is handling this the right way. An iPhone Bumper is ~$30, though I'm sure it's costing Apple pennies on the dollar - certainly not worth the PR hit they're taking with this thing. http://iphonehold.tumblr.com/ Let's face it: when you ship 1,000,000 phones in a single day, there are bound to be some problems - and more than likely, a good portion of people will experience these problems. http://www.facebook.com/chrispirillo What do you think about the matter?

Giving Away my iPhone

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - Now that I have my iPhone 4, I had to decide what to do with the iPhone 3GS. I could sell it. I could put it up for auction. I could keep it for a backup device, since it's still in excellent shape. Some of the chat room members wanted me to smash it or microwave it - neither of which I wanted to do. I decided I should call someone for advice. http://live.pirillo.com

iPhone 4 Updates

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - Well, it's been about a day since I've switched from the iPhone 3GS to an iPhone 4, and I thought I'd gather some of my thoughts in video - using the iPhone 4 while I was on the road. The video came out very well, in my estimation - except I couldn't control where it was focused (and there was no way of telling how it was focused since I couldn't see the screen). One solution could have been to use the front-facing camera, but then the footage would have come out at a lower resolution. I decided (at the last second) to edit the video in iMovie on the iPhone - if only to see how easy it was to do. Indeed, it was easy. Uploaded directly to YouTube from the app, too! Still, the questions remain: what do you think about the iPhone 4 so far? What accessories are you getting? What would you recommend to the rest of the iPhone community?

Does a Laptop Replace a Desktop?

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - According to a study just released by Slate, the sale of laptops eclipsed the sale of desktops last year - 44% to 38%. The remainder of sales went to netbooks. These figures would lead one to believe that laptops may be replacing desktops as the primary machines people own. Lamarr is here to tell you that as far as he's concerned, that isn't going to happen. http://youtube.com/wilsontech1 - http://lockergnome.net

How to Flex Your External Hard Drive Options

http://go.tagjag.com/goflex - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - This ultra-portable hard drive doesn't have a USB port nor a Firewire port, an eSata port or any other sort of port. The issue with hard drive enclosures is that they have one type of port or another. When a new type comes out, you'll need a new enclosure. This Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex that was sent to me for review is completely different. There are zero ports on the back. http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - Tedd asked over on Lockergnome.net if we feel that SETI should continue. How Do You Define Bloatware?

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - A caller the other night asked simply: "What is Bloatware?" That's actually an easy one to answer! Bloatware is when you have a piece of software that should be a certain size. However, due to several unnecessary things being added in, the size of the software increases dramatically. Heck, sometimes companies add so much crap in that the original software ends up being buggy and laggy. http://live.pirillo.com

It's Time to Use a Different Web Browser When...

http://bit.ly/bbdEp0 - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - Over on Lockergnome.net, Michael asked people which web browser they prefer, and why. This is something I am asked constantly. It certainly seems as though everyone has a definite preference: there are over a thousand views on that question alone, and several pages' worth of answers. Garmin StreetPilot GPS Review

http://go.tagjag.com/streetpilot - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - When I was in the third grade, I learned map skills. North, East, South and West were pretty easy to master. I'm still not sure how I failed. It was likely because I didn't own a GPS system at the time. I'd have killed for one of these devices when I delivered pizzas during college. Thanks to the folks at Garmin, I not only reviewed the StreetPilot c320 GPS system; I now also have a new one to use in my car. http://chris.pirillo.com

Someone is Getting a Free Mac Computer...

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - There are a lot of Geeks in our community. One of the best of the best is UncleJohn, who is a moderator in our chat room. He also has saved my butt over the past several months on a near-daily basis. I used to record the live videos using the Ustream console. After I "upgraded" to the Ustream Producer account, though, I began having all kinds of trouble when trying to save them out. UncleJohn stepped in and now screen captures every one of my recordings and turns them into what you see here. Sadly, his old computer gave up the ghost recently. He spends so much of his own time and resources helping our community that I decided it's time for us to give something to him in return. That something is a brand-new Macbook Pro. http://www.youtube.com/thegnomelocker - http://live.pirillo.com

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - The community has asked me to do more videos about software.
