How Do You Rate the Quality of an App?

http://lockergnome.net - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - Over on Lockergnome, CiphersSon asked simply: "How do you rate an app's quality?" The way I rate the quality of an app may be different from how you rate it. It's frustrating to me at this point in time. We have services such as iTunes and the Android Marketplace. We are all looking for something different - from features to aesthetics. Therefore, we will rate apps in different ways for different reasons. This means that something with a lower rating may actually end up being exactly what you were looking for. http://chris.pirillo.com

Google Chrome 5 Beta

http://go.tagjag.com/chromebeta - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - Marques has created several excellent screencasts for us in the past. This time, he wanted to show off how fast and stable the latest beta release of Google Chrome is. He feels that it's the fastest browser to date. Additionally, Marques loves that the Extension integration has been made much simpler to use, and is instantaneous when you install or remove them. http://chris.pirillo.com - http://www.youtube.com/user/marquesbrownlee

Emoji on the iPhone

http://go.tagjag.com/emojifree - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - I love being able to send cute little smilies to friends who are also using an iPhone. Using Emoji is fun and is simple to do. Once you've installed Emoji, it will tell you exactly what you need to do to get started. After enabling Emoji, anyone who has an iPhone will be able to see all of the cute little symbols you send via email, IM and text. http://chris.pirillo.com

The Truth as Parents Know It

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://lockergnome.net - Over on our questions and answers community, roguekiller23231 began a discussion about things our parents told us when we were young which may - or may not - have been true. "Your face will freeze that way if you do that!" How many times did you hear that growing up? I'm willing to bet your face is intact and not frozen into some grotesque mask. What things did the adults in your life tell you that you now know for a fact were a fib? http://chris.pirillo.com

Are Solid State Drives Better Than Traditional Hard Drives?

http://lockergnome.net - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - Over on our popular questions and answers site Lockergnome.net, bcgocubs asked how a computer will benefit when using an SSD. Also, they would like to know what everyone's general opinions are regarding solid state drives vs traditional hard drives. A traditional hard drive has moving parts, but is quite inexpensive compared to an SSD. The solid-state drive is just that: suspended in a solid state with no moving parts. It may be more expensive to buy one of these, but many people are starting to believe that they are much better for your computer. What are your thoughts? http://chris.pirillo.com - http://live.pirillo.com

Samsung Galaxy S Initial Impressions

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - The Samsung Galaxy S will be available soon in the AT&T network. I've been able to play with it for the past week or so. Despite moderate usage, I haven't had to charge it since first turning it on. The battery astounded me, to be quite honest. I've been pretty happy with this phone. Despite a few negative remarks I've seen elsewhere about this phone, this is the best Android device I've tried to date. This will definitely be my default Android phone from now on. http://chris.pirillo.com

This app is the future of news distribution. It's a beautiful mashup between social media connections as well as traditional and community sources. http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - Dragon Dictation 2.0 from Dragon Mobile Apps is one of the best apps on the market for the iPad. I should say - "Soon to be on the market" though. I was able to get an advance sneak peek at the app, thanks to the folks at Dragon Dictation. The new version will fully support iOS 4 on your device. It is insanely easy to edit and process your movies and videos using iMovie. Don't let its ease of use fool you, though. This app is very full-featured and powerful. Is There a Better Way to Protect the iPhone Screen

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - I went out yesterday and purchased an AT&T branded screen protector for my iPhone 4. In less than twenty-four hours, it is already smudged and messed up quite a lot. The packaging claims that it is "anti-fingerprint." You can clearly see in this video (shot with the new Samsung Galaxy S) that there are, indeed, fingerprints everywhere. I don't recommend wasting your money on this particular screen protection. I'd rather my iPhone go naked than use something like this. http://chris.pirillo.com - http://lockergnome.net

How Do You Defeat a Gaming Addiction?

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - I saw a question on Lockergnome the other day where Luke admitted he has a gaming addiction. He reached out to the community for help in overcoming it. He managed to stop playing all day long, but finds himself not caring about other activities. He feels a strong pull towards his game(s), and doesn't know how to get past that. The first thing to remember that it IS an addiction, just like with a gambler or drug addict. An addiction is in your mind, and it's not an easy thing to overcome. It takes a lot of strength and willpower just to admit you need help in that area, and I commend Luke for reaching out for advice. http://chris.pirillo.com - http://lockergnome.net

How Many Types of Linux do we Need?

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - http://chris.pirillo.com - Over at Lockergnome.net, Luke asked where there are so many different Linux distros. Linux is awesome, there's no doubt about it. The beauty of Linux is that it is open-source, and anyone can change it how they see fit. Some people want certain choices and features, while others want something entirely different. This is why you'll find so many different flavors of Linux. http://geeks.pirillo.com - http://lockergnome.net

Used iPhone 3GS Unboxing

http://twitter.com/katarmstrong - http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - When I received my iPhone 4, I decided to give my 3GS model to my assistant and Community Manager Kat. Canonical explains the status of Ubuntu on ARM Powered Laptops

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo - http://facebook.com/chrispirillo - It will be good to get an alternative processor platform to power all our laptops and desktops. But to run a full consumer friendly OS on an embedded processor platform has been a challenge so far, as the ARM processors were originally intended just to power phones and other dedicated devices. Designing a simple user interface for the Linux based OS that can be embraced by the mass market instead of Microsoft Windows is also a large challenge. Jerone Young is one of the main engineers at Canonical working for the past many months in trying to get Ubuntu to work 100% smoothly on the upcoming fastest ARM Processors that will come in the thin, light and possibly very cheap ARM Powered laptops and desktops that will normally reach the mass market in the months to come. This video was filmed by Charbax of http://ARMdevices.net at the Freescale Technology Forum in Orlando Florida.
